Below is a quick rundown of past and present kids cable television networks in the United States.

Nickelodeon | Nick at Nite

• Launch of QUBE channel C-3 in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, December 1, 1977; only program was Pinwheel, which continued on Nickelodeon
• Nickelodeon officially launched on Sunday, April 1, 1979 at 9:00am
• West coast timeshift channel launched on January 1, 1985
• Nick at Nite programming block (sometimes treated like a separate channel) debuted on Monday, July 1, 1985 at 8:00pm
• Nick Too (Nick 2) timeshift digital channel launched in January 1999
• High Definition feed launched in October 2007; first HD broadcast in March 2008

Disney Channel

Cartoon Network | Adult Swim

• Launched on Thursday, October 1, 1992 at 12:00pm
• Originally known as “The Cartoon Network” on-air; still its legal name (The Cartoon Network, Inc.)
• West coast timeshift channel started Monday, March 2, 1998
• HD feed launched on Monday, October 15, 2007

Discovery Kids

• Launched on Monday, October 7, 1996
• Originally known as “Discovery Kids Channel” from 1996-2001 to distinguish from the programming block on The Discovery Channel
• Came to an end on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 9:59am
• Channel rebranded to The Hub

Toon Disney

• Launched on Saturday, April 18, 1998 at 3:00pm
• Sometimes known as “Toon Disney Channel” in off-channel branding
• JETIX programming block began on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 7:00pm
• Came to an end on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 11:59pm
• Channel rebranded to Disney XD

Fox Family

• Launched on Saturday, August 15, 1998 at 12:00pm as a rebrand of The Family Channel
• Came to an end on late-Friday, November 9, 2001 at 1:00am
• Channel rebranded to ABC Family, after being sold to The Walt Disney Company

Noggin

• Launched on Sunday, January 31, 1999
• Shared channel space with programming block The N from April 1, 2002 until December 31, 2007
• Came to an end on Monday, September 27, 2009 at 5:59am
• Channel rebranded to Nick Jr.
• Relaunched as a premium streaming service on Thursday, March 5, 2015

Nickelodeon GAS: Games and Sports for Kids

• Launched on Monday, March 1, 1999
• Channel often known on-air as simply “Nick GAS”
• Came to an end on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 5:59am for most TV providers; Dish Network continued Nick GAS until April 23, 2009
• Channel replaced by The N on all providers, except Dish

boyzChannel & girlzChannel

• Two separate digital channel spin-offs from Fox Family
• Both launched on Sunday, October 31, 1999
• Both came to an end on or before August 18, 2000 (via Multichannel News); very low channel distribution forced both to shutdown quickly

Boomerang

• Launched on Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 8:00am
• Also launched as a subscription video service on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 (legally as “Boomerang Plus LLC”)

ABC Family

• Launched on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 7:00am, as a rebrand of Fox Family
• Came to an end on late-Monday, January 11, 2016 at 2:00am
• Channel rebranded to Freeform

The N

• Launched on Monday, April 1, 2002 at 6:00pm as a programming block on Noggin
• Launched as a separate channel on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 6:00am, replacing the Nick GAS channel space on most providers
• Came to an end on Monday, September 27, 2009 at 5:59am
• Channel rebranded to TeenNick

Nicktoons

• Launched on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at 6:00am
• Also known as “Nicktoons TV” from 2002-2003 and “Nicktoons Network” from 2005-2009

Sprout

• Started as a Video On Demand service in April 2005 before the linear channel launched
• TV channel launched on Monday, September 26, 2005
• Was known as “PBS Kids Sprout” from 2005-2013
• Came to an end on Saturday, September 8, 2017 at 4:59pm
• Channel rebranded to Universal Kids; Sprout name kept as a programming block for preschoolers until early 2018

BabyFirst

• Launched on Thursday, May 11, 2006
• Also known as “BabyFirstTV” from 2006-2014

Disney XD

• Launched on late-Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 12:00am as a rebrand of Toon Disney

TeenNick

• Launched on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 6:00am as a rebrand of The N

Nick Jr.

• Launched on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 6:00am as a rebrand of Noggin

Hub Network

• Launched on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 10:00am as a rebrand of Discovery Kids
• Known as “The Hub” from 2010-2013 and “The Hub Network” from 2013-January 2014

• Channel rebranded to Discovery Family

Disney Jr.

• Launched on late-Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 12:00am

• Launched on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 6:00am as a rebrand of Hub Network

• Launched on Monday, January 16, 2017 exclusively through Comcast Xfinity

Universal Kids

• Launched on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 5:00pm as a rebrand of Sprout
