Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

For Summer 2013, powered by the premiere of “Teen Beach Movie” and top series rankings across major youth demos, Disney Channel ranked as TV’s #1 network in Total Day for the 8th consecutive summer in Tweens 9-14 (655,000/2.8 rating), the 5th consecutive summer in Kids 6-11 (762,000/3.2 rating) and 2nd consecutive summer in Kids 2-11 (1.06 million/2.7 rating), and was the #1 cable TV network for the 2nd summer in a row in Total Viewers (1.90 million).

Disney Channel towered over Nickelodeon by double digits for the 5th straight summer in Tweens 9-14 (+81% – 655,000 vs. 362,000 – largest advantage ever) and 2nd in Kids 6-11 (+41% – 762,000 vs. 542,000), and led by a solid 8% in Kids 2-11 (1.06 million vs. 984,000).

In Prime Disney Channel was TV’s #1 network for the 14th consecutive summer in Tweens (910,000/3.8 rating) and 11th straight in Kids 2-11 (1.45 million/3.7 rating) and Kids 6-11 (1.10 million/4.7 rating).

  • The premiere of original movie “Teen Beach Movie” was the #1 cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (13.53 million) and #1 TV telecast across Kids 2-11 (7.94 million/20.0 rating), Kids 6-11 (6.37 million/27.0 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (5.11 million/21.5 rating).
  • “Teen Beach Movie” became the #2 cable TV movie of all time in Total Viewers, behind only “High School Musical 2” (18.64 million) – still the #1 scripted telecast in cable TV history – and the #2 cable TV telecast ever in Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Tweens.
  • The sneak peek of upcoming original comedy series “Liv and Maddie” ranked as the summer’s #2 TV telecast in Kids 2-11 (3.56 million/9.0 rating), Kids 6-11 (3.00 million/12.7 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (2.70 million/11.3 rating).
  • Disney Channel delivered TV’s Top 7 series in Kids 2-11, Top 8 in Kids 6-11 and Top 9 in Tweens (Top 5 below):

Disney Junior Preschooler Block on Disney Channel

Disney Channel’s Disney Junior block set summer highs in Total Viewers (1.71 million – tied Summer ’12) and Girls 2-5 (263,000/3.4 rating), and was its 2nd-most-watched summer in Kids 2-5 (477,000/3.0 rating) and Women 18-49 (314,000/0.5 rating).

“Sofia the First” ranked as the #1 TV series in Kids 2-5 (688,000/4.3 rating) and Girls 2-5 (426,000/5.4 rating) and the #1 preschool cable TV series in Total Viewers (2.21 million) and Women 18-49 (388,000/0.6 rating), marking the block’s 2nd summer in a row with the #1 TV/cable TV series with preschoolers 2-5.

Disney Junior out-delivered Nickelodeon head to head with preschool programming across the board: by 32% in Total Viewers (1.94 million vs. 1.47 million), by 31% in Kids 2-5 (618,000 vs. 473,000), by 43% in Girls 2-5 (345,000 vs. 242,000), by 19% in Boys 2-5 (273,000 vs. 230,000) and by 6% in Women 18-49 (371,000 vs. 349,000).

24-Hour Disney Junior Channel

The 24-hour Disney Junior Channel ranked as the summer’s #1 preschool-dedicated TV network in Total Viewers (401,000), Kids 2-5 (202,000/1.3 rating), Girls 2-5 (92,000/1.2 rating), Boys 2-5 (110,000/1.3 rating) and Women 18-49 (80,000/0.1 rating).

Impressively, Disney Junior Channel grew its audience each month throughout the summer, with August ’13 standing as the network’s most-watched month on record in Total Viewers (441,000), Kids 2-5 (222,000/1.4 rating), Girls 2-5 (102,000/1.3 rating), Boys 2-5 (120,000/1.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (88,000/0.1 rating).

Furthermore, Disney Junior Channel has ranked as TV’s #1 preschool network for 21 straight weeks in Kids 2-5 and Boys 2-5 – each week since becoming publicly reported on April 1, 2013 – and for the 20th time in the previous 21 weeks in Total Viewers.

  • Disney Junior Channel topped Nick Jr. across all target demos: Total Viewers (+13% – 401,000 vs. 354,000), Kids 2-5 (+17% – 202,000 vs. 172,000), Girls 2-5 (+3% – 92,000 vs. 89,000) and Boys 2-5 (+33% – 110,000 vs. 83,000) and Women 18-49 (+13% – 80,000 vs. 71,000), despite being in 15.4 million fewer homes.
  • Disney Junior Channel towered over Sprout by triple digits across the board: Total Viewers (+146% – 401,000 vs. 163,000), Kids 2-5 (+181% – 202,000 vs. 72,000), Girls 2-5 (+114% – 92,000 vs. 43,000), Boys 2-5 (+279% – 110,000 vs. 29,000) and Women 18-49 (+129% – 80,000 vs. 35,000).
