Boomerang Gives Thanks with Holiday Airing of Classic Special, The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t

On Thanksgiving Day 1972, Hanna-Barbera debuted The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t, a 30-minute original holiday special to remind everyone that there is always a reason to give thanks. This year on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s home for commercial-free classic animation, will offer the 28th anniversary presentation of this charming, heart-warming family classic at 10 a.m. (ET) and then again at 7 p.m. (ET).

Featuring a cast of Hanna-Barbera’s best vocal talent such as June Foray (Looney Tunes, Rocky and Bullwinkle) and Don Messick (Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons), The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t is a story about friendship that is also full of adventure. Set in 1621, The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t chronicles one dangerously fateful day for Johnny Cooke, a young Pilgrim boy, and Little Bear, an Indian boy, who are discovered to be missing. The first Thanksgiving feast cannot start without them, and when their friend Jeremy Squirrel hears they are in peril he goes on a daring rescue mission. He braves waterfalls and snarling timber wolves to save his friends and succeeds in saving them and therefore Thanksgiving Day itself. The little hero is then invited to be guest of honor at this very special feast.
