via Nickelodeon press release:

Nickelodeon’s Jerry Trainor is Top Dog as Star of Network’s New Action-Packed Animated Comedy, T.U.F.F. Puppy

iCarly Star Stars as Secret Agent Dudley Puppy in Newest Nicktoon Premiering this Fall

BURBANK, Calif., July 22 — Jerry Trainor, best known as the hilarious big brother and guardian to Carly Shay in Nickelodeon’s number one live-action hit series iCarly, brings his comedic talents to the network’s newest animated series T.U.F.F. Puppy, bowing this fall on Nickelodeon, the largest producer of television animation in the world.  The 13-episode, 2D series is created and executive produced by Nickelodeon hit-maker Butch Hartman, creator of the Emmy Award-winning The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom.  Hartman’s latest animated adventure features a theme song performed by Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne (“Stacy’s Mom”), and is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif.

“Jerry is a natural fit for animation,” said Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group.  “His energy and comedic timing – coupled with Butch’s brand of humor – bring Dudley and the series to life.  Casting Jerry is a home run.”

T.U.F.F. Puppy follows a gung-ho, dim-witted dog named Dudley Puppy who finds himself accidentally thrust into the role of secret agent when he’s recruited by the super-secret, crime-fighting organization, T.U.F.F. (Turbo Undercover Fighting Force).  He partners with Kitty Katswell, a feline superspy who is an amazing kung-fu and weapons expert.  Naturally, they don’t get along, but together they protect their hometown of Petropolis and the rest of the world against the evil animal organization, D.O.O.M. (Diabolical Order of Mayhem).

Trainor is known to many as Spencer Shay, an off-centered aspiring artist and brother and guardian of his teenaged sister Carly on Nickelodeon’s mega-hit television series iCarly.  Trainor’s portrayal of Spencer garnered the actor his first Teen Choice nomination for Choice TV Actor: Comedy in 2009.  Prior to his role on iCarly, he was cast as the reoccurring character Crazy Steve on Drake & Josh.  Trainor will soon play Quincy, a thirty-something bachelor who dedicates his life to being the best cyber multi-player athlete online, in the upcoming Nickelodeon Original TV movie Best Player.
