Since I’ve Been Gone: Nickelodeon Edition

Author: Nickandmore!

I wanted to get caught up on all the news/series items I’ve missed since leaving in late July. Here’s a recap and a look at what’s coming up:

Sports-themed video series Crashletes premiered on July 5 and has completed a 20-episode first season and has already started a second season, now airing on Fridays at 7pm.

Docu-tainment series All In With Cam Newton and The HALO Effect have continued with new episodes on Friday nights. All In airs weekly, while HALO airs one new episode a month.

Nick burned-off the six episodes of scripted docu-style series Legendary Dudas on Saturday nights in July and August. The series was produced last fall and a few of the show’s stars have moved to other projects, so there is little chance this series will be seen again.

SpongeBob finally has an HD intro! It’s hard to believe, but it has been four years since season nine of the show premiered – where every episode has been produced in HD. Still the old SD intro was used. Not anymore! As of July 9, the newly made HD intro is an almost frame-for-frame recreation of the original, but with smoother animation and various color enhancements.  As for new episodes, a week of premieres aired in July and weekly premieres will air Saturday mornings at 10:30am in October.

Sanjay and Craig said goodbye in July with a final bow of two weeks of new episodes. The finale aired July 29. It’s one of the rare “Nicktoons” from the last decade to actually air all of its episodes on the main network.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir finally made its way back to Nick. After airing two new episodes on Nicktoons in May, the series returned with weekly premieres on Saturday mornings at 8:30am on August 6.

Also joining Miraculous on Saturday mornings is the new animated series Regal Academy, from the creator of Winx Club. New episodes have been airing Saturdays at 8am since August 13.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finally returned with new episodes on August 14, after a four-month break. Already on another break, episode 4×20 will air on November 6. This has been the slowest rollout of new episodes since the show debuted.

After its usual long break, Power Rangers Dino Super Charge returned for new episodes on August 20. The finale is expected to air in November/December with the next iteration, Power Rangers Ninja Steel, coming in early 2017.

A one-hour Make It Pop summer special aired on August 20. Not sure if a third season is coming, but if so, I’d imagine it’ll air in early 2017.

A new preschool series, Rusty Rivets, was scheduled to premiere on August 22. For whatever reason (possibly due to the animation studio Arc Productions shutting down in early August and filing for bankruptcy), the premiere was replaced by a new Shimmer and Shine. No word when/if the new show will air.

The newest docu-tainment series featuring 15-year-old skateboarder Jagger Eaton premiered on September 9. New episodes of Jagger Eaton’s Mega Life air Fridays at 7:30pm.

After about an eight-month break, The Fairly OddParents returned for a week of premieres on September 12. Another week of premieres was set for September 19 but was pulled.

The annual World Wide Day of Play took place on September 17.

The season premieres of Henry Danger, Game Shakers* and School of Rock also aired on September 17. *While a second season episode of Game Shakers did air this night, a few leftover episodes from the first season will air the following four Saturdays.

The Loud House has had a successful and rapid release this year. By the end of October, 25 of the season’s 26 episodes will have aired. It has become Nick’s top rated show, with repeats out-performing SpongeBob. Wow!

Harvey Beaks is still airing premieres (but no repeats) on the main network, while fellow 2015 bow Pig Goat Banana Cricket has just moved over to Nicktoons for premieres.

The newly acquired animated series from Gwen Stefani, Kuu Kuu Harajuku, premieres next Monday, October 3 at 4pm with a week of premieres before settling into the Saturday morning block at 9am with weekly new episodes.

The hour-long season three finale of The Thundermans will premiere Monday, October 10 at 7pm. The following Saturday, a special Halloween-themed episode from season four will premiere. The full fourth season launch will not take place until a later date, though.

Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn is also in production on their third season. Premiere date is TBA though.

In future movie/special news…

The Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot movie is scheduled for a late-2016 launch.

Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie will premiere in two, hour-long parts, one in 2017 and the other in 2018.

A new Rocko’s Modern Life special is coming in the future as well!

Other future movies include Albert, EscapeFromMr. Lemoncello’s Library and Rufus 2.

Future animated originals…

Welcome to the Wayne, based on the web-series that aired in August 2015, Pinky Malinky, Bunsen is a Beast! from Butch Hartman, and Glitch Techs from Fanboy & Chum Chum creator Eric Robles.

In other news…

The Nickelodeon Animation Podcast has been rolling out weekly on YouTube/iTunes. Episodes so far have featured Jim Jinkins, Butch Hartman, Craig Bartlett and many more people both related to Nickelodeon and not. It’s a great listen for any fan of these creators/actors, their shows or the animation industry in general.

Phew. That’s it, I think. More news as it happens. 🙂
