Strong performances from original, acquired and library programs helped Cartoon Network finish the second quarter of 1999 tied (with TBS Superstation) as the second highest-rated ad-supported basic cable network, with a 1.1 total day household rating-the best second quarter household rating in network history. Cartoon Network also boasted the highest total day household net delivery gal n among all ad-supported cable networks (+135,000), while posting network delivery records in total day (611,000 up 28 percent), kids 2-11 (456,000 up 33 percent) and kids 6-11 (222,000 up 47 percent). The network’s 1.6 kids 6-11 total day rating was also a quarterly record. In prime time, the network set second quarter records in both ratings and delivery in households (1.6/922,000), kids 2-11 (3.4/777,000) and kids 6-11 (2.8/388,000).
An aggressive new programming strategy, which includes the Monday-through-Friday prime time stripping of the Emmy-nominated series Dexters Laboratory and Cow and Chicken, helped Cartoon Network shatter its prime time and total day delivery records during the July 1998 rating period (6/29/98-7/26/98), while also setting the network record for prime time ratings.
