Nickelodeon to Launch First New On-Air Look in More Than a Decade

Timed to kids’ back-to-school season, Nickelodeon will launch its first new on-air look in more than 10 years, beginning Monday, Sept. 4. The new look will feature a brand-new color palate exclusively of black, white, butter yellow and mint green augmenting the network’s signature orange “splat,” along with still images of Nick’s signature characters and humorous sound effects. Utilizing an economy of images and graphics to convey the network’s signature irreverence, style and wit, Nick’s new look will appear first in show teases, credit rolls and show bumpers and then will be followed later in packaging across the entire Nickelodeon brand.

Nickelodeon’s New SNICK House Premieres October 16

Beginning Saturday, October 16, Nickelodeon’s Saturday night lineup, SNICK (Saturday night Nickelodeon), will get a whole new look with the premiere of two new series as well as the unveiling of the SNICK House, Nickelodeon’s new SNICK home base located in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills.

TBS, Inc. Announces Classic Animation Network; BOOMERANG to Launch in Spring 2000

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) will launch a new, 24-hour animation network, featuring the classic cartoons and stars of the Hanna-Barbera library, it was announced today by Betty Cohen, president of Cartoon Network Worldwide, who will oversee the new network. BOOMERANG will target parents and adults 30+, as wen as their young kids, and will feature classic Hanna-Barbera characters including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw and Top Cat, as created by the legendary animation team of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera.

Nickelodeon, Nick At Nite and TV Land Strike Programming Deal with Warner Bros. for Multiple Hit Television Shows

Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite and TV Land have reached a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Pay-TV, Cable & Network Features in which all three networks will have access to several of Warner Bros. programs from the past 40 years of television. The agreement, which begins in April, 2000, will enable all three popular programming services to bring numerous hit sitcoms and dramas to a variety of dayparts.

Cartoon Network Ratings Highlights for 2Q 1999

Strong performances from original, acquired and library programs helped Cartoon Network finish the second quarter of 1999 tied (with TBS Superstation) as the second highest-rated ad-supported basic cable network, with a 1.1 total day household rating-the best second quarter household rating in network history. Cartoon Network also boasted the highest total day household net delivery gal n among all ad-supported cable networks (+135,000), while posting network delivery records in total day (611,000 up 28 percent), kids 2-11 (456,000 up 33 percent) and kids 6-11 (222,000 up 47 percent). The network’s 1.6 kids 6-11 total day rating was also a quarterly record. In prime time, the network set second quarter records in both ratings and delivery in households (1.6/922,000), kids 2-11 (3.4/777,000) and kids 6-11 (2.8/388,000).

Cartoon Network Ratings Highlights for July 1998

An aggressive new programming strategy, which includes the Monday-through-Friday prime time stripping of the Emmy-nominated series Dexters Laboratory and Cow and Chicken, helped Cartoon Network shatter its prime time and total day delivery records during the July 1998 rating period (6/29/98-7/26/98), while also setting the network record for prime time ratings.
