DISNEY JUNIOR LANDS 52-CONSECUTIVE WEEKS AS #1 PRESCHOOLER CHANNEL AMONG KIDS 2-5, AS SUCCESSFUL BRAND EXTENSIONS GROW

24-Hour Disney Junior channel:

Disney Junior, the 24-hour channel dedicated to kids age 2-7, has surpassed all similarly-targeted channels for 52 consecutive weeksreigning #1 in Total Viewers, Kids 2-5 and Boys 2-5 — while further elevating the multi-platform Disney Junior brand affinity among kids and parents. The channel launched in March 2012 and began publicly reporting ratings in April 2013. It is available in 76 million U.S. households.

The 24-hour Disney Junior channel, which just delivered its #1 quarter on record in 1Q14, ranked as TV’s #1 preschool-dedicated Total Day network for the year in: Total Viewers (420,000), Kids 2-5 (210,000/1.3 rating), Girls 2-5 (98,000/1.3 rating), Boys 2-5 (111,000/1.4 rating) and Women 18-49 (84,000).

  • For 52 weeks, 24-hour Disney Junior channel out-delivered Nick Jr. (available in 64 million U.S. households) in Total Day by double digits across the board:  Total Viewers (+26% – 420,000 vs. 333,000), Kids 2-5  (+30% – 210,000 vs. 162,000), Girls 2-5 (+17% – 98,000 vs. 84,000), Boys 2-5 (+41% – 111,000 vs. 79,000), Women 18-49 (+24% – 84,000 vs. 68,000) and Kids 2-11 (+30% – 267,000 vs. 206,000).
  • For 52 weeks, 24-hour Disney Junior channel out-delivered Sprout (available in 57 million U.S. households) in Total Day by triple digits across the board: Total Viewers (+171% – 420,000 vs. 155,000), Kids 2-5  (+204% – 210,000 vs. 69,000), Girls 2-5 (+158% – 98,000 vs. 38,000), Boys 2-5 (+258% – 111,000 vs. 31,000), Women 18-49 (+147% – 84,000 vs. 34,000) and Kids 2-11 (+214% – 267,000 vs. 85,000).
  • The animated Disney Junior hit “Sheriff Callie’s Wild Westranked as the #1 series on any and all preschooler TV networks across the board: Total Viewers (882,000), Kids 2-5 (449,000/2.9 rating), Girls 2-5 (214,000/2.8 rating), Boys 2-5 (235,000/3.0 rating), Women 18-49 (171,000/0.3 rating) and Kids 2-11 (572,000/1.5 rating).
  • “Sheriff Callie” accounted for 4 of the Top 5 telecasts during the time frame in Kids 2-5 and 6 of the Top 10 overall.
  • For 52 weeks, “Sofia the First” ranked as the #2 series across preschooler TV networks in Total Viewers (722,000), Kids 2-11 (447,000/1.1 rating) and Women 18-49 (146,000/0.2 rating).
  •  Disney Junior’s “Sofia the First” telecast on December 1, 2013, ranked as the #1 telecast across preschooler networks in Total Viewers (1.9 million) and Girls 2-5 (583,000/7.7 rating).

Digital Media – WATCH Disney Junior:

WATCH Disney Junior is a hugely popular part of the trailblazing WATCH Disney apps and services from the Disney/ABC Television Group, which have been downloaded more than 20 million times and amassed over 1.6 billion video starts.

Leading into its linear TV premiere which set record ratings for the channel and ranked #1 in its time period across target preschooler demos – “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West” was the #1 show on WATCH Disney Junior from November 2013-January 2014 with over 23 million video starts.

  • Disney Junior Appisodes, apps combining viewing, interaction and learning with the Disney Junior TV characters and stories kids love, have soared to #1 across multiple iTunes charts in 16 countries.
  • In addition to dominating the kids’ charts, it crossed over to reach the #1 spot on the overall free entertainment apps for iPad in the U.S.

Extensions of Disney Junior

The popularity of Disney Junior and its flagship series “Sofia the First,” “Doc McStuffins,” “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” have created opportunities across Disney:

  • Disney Parks & Resorts prominently features all four series in its popular “Disney Junior Live on Stage!” attraction at Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
  • “Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure” – featuring “Sofia the First” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” – will perform 317 shows in 103 cities during the 2013–2014 tour season.
  • Over 1100 Disney Junior book titles are currently available from Disney Publishing
  • New York Times best seller “Sofia the First” app, released as an e-book, and “Sofia the First: Story Theater” app, ranked as the #1 Kids iPad app on the App Store in 43 countries worldwide.
  • In 2012 and 2013, “Doc McStuffins” won the Toy Industry Associations prestigious ‘Preschool Toy of the Year.’
  • More than 1 million “Doc McStuffins” ‘Doctor Bag Play Sets’ and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” ‘Bucky Ships’ have been sold to date.
  • “Sofia the First” was the #1 selling girls costume at The Disney Store during Halloween 2013.
  • Walt Disney Records has released popular soundtracks for Disney Junior series, with its soundtracks for “Sofia the First,” “Doc McStuffins” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” all debuting in the Top 5 on Soundscan Children’s Chart.
  • The newest music release, “DJ Shuffle,” is the first-ever Disney Junior music compilation album and showcases the new Disney Junior anthem, “DJ Shuffle,” performed by meme master Parry Gripp (“Do You Like Waffles?”).
  • Multiple Disney Junior properties have been released on DVD by Disney Studios, including “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess,” which was the #1 animated TV title for 2013.
