My Babysitter’s a Vampire “The Brewed” Recap

My Babysitter's a Vampire

A delivery error causes the coffee from ‘Lotta Latte’ to turn its drinkers into zombies.

Sarah, Ethan, and Benny are in their respective classes, wondering why their coffee-drinking teachers are acting so strange. In between classes, Rory hears teachers saying, “brains” in the teacher’s lounge but when he tries to warn Principal Hicks, his concerns are brushed off. Sarah ditches her class field trip and heads over to Lotta Latte, where zombies start flooding the shop, looking for coffee. She knocks them all out and heads back to school to help out the guys.

There, a zombified teacher grabs Ethan, triggering a vision which reveals that a delivery error has caused the coffee to turn its drinkers into zombies. After getting away from the zombie, Ethan and Benny get a sample of the coffee from the teacher’s lounge to test. While Benny tries to hide the fact that he was bitten, Ethan discovers that they need to drop the temperature to end the madness. Sarah turns on the school’s A/C (by throwing zombie-Rory against the panel), curing the zombies right before they close in on Ethan.

My Babysitter's a Vampire

This was an average zombie episode but the non-linear storytelling format made it more interesting to watch. It definitely helped give it some comedy, like when Benny asked why they didn’t get a sign and it immediately switched over to a teacher spelling out, “brain” earlier in the day. Ethan and Benny begging Sarah to help them with their bully, Scott, was amusing as well, though it was dropped in favor of the zombies. I was a little disappointed by that but the show is usually good about referencing things from past episodes, so hopefully they’ll elaborate on this guy in a future episode.

I’m always complaining about the lack of Rory so I was happy to see him have his own plot (as trivial as it was) and be somewhat involved in the main one as well. Plus, I enjoyed the continuation of his interest in being a superhero. I found Principal Hicks (Hrant Alianak) pleasantly silly as usual but I wasn’t too impressed with the coffee shop worker and the flirty classmate. I think I would have preferred to see Erica in place of the guy but I’m guessing Kate Todd wasn’t available, as she wasn’t in the episode at all. Erica doesn’t seem to have much interest in helping out, preferring to snark and dash, but I think it would have been fun to see the girls team up and take down the zombies.
