All Nickelodeon Networks Tally Biggest Audiences Ever for May

NEW YORK– June 2, 2010–Nickelodeon closes May as basic cable’s number-one total day network with kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and total viewers for the month, and also scored its best-ever May performance with total viewers. According to Nielsen Media Research (4/26/10-5/30/10), Nickelodeon averaged 2.1 million total viewers, a 3.3/1.2 million K2-11 and 2.7/576,000 K6-11 for the month.

Nickelodeon’s iCarly (5/1/10, 8 p.m. ET/PT) landed basic cable’s number-one entertainment telecast for the month, averaging 5.4 million total viewers.  The hit series also logged the number-one telecast for the month with kids 2-11 (followed by number-two ranked Victorious and number-three Big Time Rush), kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14.  Year to date, iCarly is the number-one live-action series with kids 2-11.

Nickelodeon’s monthly win also was fueled by SpongeBob SquarePants and The Penguins of Madagascar, which rank as May’s top two animated series on broadcast and basic cable with kids 2-11.  Nick also nabbed the top five preschool shows in May, with Team Umizoomi ranking as the top preschool program on all of television, followed by (#2) Dora the Explorer, (#3) Max and Ruby (#4) Go, Diego, Go!, and (#5) Ni Hao, Kai-lan.

Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., TeenNick and Nicktoons each logged their best May performances ever with total viewers.

  • Nick at Nite finished the month with 1.5 million total viewers and as basic cable’s top network among Women 18-49 (0.7/408,000).
  • Nickelodeon’s 24-hour preschool network, Nick Jr. had its highest-rated and most-watched May ever with both total viewers (+19%) and preschoolers (+17% in rating).
  • TeenNick–the only 24-hour network for and about teens–drew its highest-rated and most-watched May ever with teens 12-17 (+13% in delivery) and total viewers (+13%).
  • Nicktoons also posted its highest-rated and most-watched May with total viewers (+18%), K6-11 (+33% in rating), B6-11 (+27% in delivery), T9-14 (+32% in delivery) and B9-14 (+25% in rating).  Nicktoons record-setting performance was driven by the premiere of Dragon Ball Z Kai(Monday, May 24, 8–9 p.m. ET), which set a new record as the highest-rated series premiere in the network’s history with total viewers, T9-14 and B9-14.
